General FAQ
Why should I choose Donskov Hockey Development?
Knowledge, Passion, Work Ethic, Experience, and Fun! Donskov Hockey Development is built on quality instruction. All family members have enjoyed successful hockey careers and, more importantly, are superb instructors. We pride ourselves in producing a high speed, high intensity, and high-energy hockey experience. We have created a curriculum and teaching syllabus that has been carefully designed using a progressive ‘Total Skills Development Training Model’. It is our goal to create drills that challenge our students, effectively utilize the ice surface, build off a progression, and are fun. We are all truly passionate about hockey and, more importantly, your development as a person. If you are looking for the "complete" hockey experience while being pushed beyond your comfort zone…DHD is the experience for you!
Why did the name change from The “OV” Hockey School to Donskov Hockey Development?
The “OV” Hockey School was founded in May of 2000. “OV” was the nickname given to the Donskov brothers during their junior hockey careers in southwestern Ontario, hence our founding name, The “OV” Hockey School. Over the years we experienced considerable growth and demand. Our services now include not only summer camps but also specialized clinics, coaching education, consulting, curriculum/program development and strength and conditioning (www.donskovsc.com). Due to the growth and diversity of services we are now officially known as Donskov Hockey Development.
In keeping with our tradition and legacy, on the last day of each camp, participants will play for The “OV” Challenge Cup.
Who will be the instructors on and off the ice during the week?
DHD prides itself in its camp instruction. We do our very best to have four Head Instructors (Paul, Misha, Anthony, and Matt Donskov) on (and off) the ice at all times. This ratio along with small group sizes and participants segmented based on skill allows us to maintain a low student/instructor ratio and effectively teach and motivate your son/daughter. We are proud of our team and the passion, energy, and experience we bring to each camp. Outstanding qualifications, a strong work ethic, and a genuine concern for teaching and promoting the game of hockey to our athletes, are all characteristics of The DHD Team. What is The "OV" Challenge Cup?
The last day of each camp participants play for the prestigious "OV" Challenge Cup. The "OV" Challenge Cup is regarded as a prized piece of hardware and serves as extra incentive and ‘bragging rights’ to those who are fortunate enough to win it. Each winning team hoists the cup followed by team pictures, a victory lap, and time in the dressing room with players, friends, and parents. Will you be the next team member to hoist this cherished piece of hardware?
My son/daughter is a goalie. Will they receive any training?
We strive to design our curriculum and practice plans around keeping our goaltenders active and engaged in all training sessions. Goaltenders will take part in power skating and conditioning exercises while working on balance, agility, quickness, and hand eye coordination. Each goaltender will receive individual attention and will see plenty of shots throughout the course of the week.
Is there a discount for additional family members?
DHD offers a 10% discount for the 3rd youth participant per family.
I am coming from out of town. How do I get to the facility?
DHD calls the Easton Chiller home. Click Here for an arena map and directions.
Do you offer Dryland Training?
Dryland Training will be a component of all DHD camps. Training is hockey specific and functional in nature. We follow an Integrated Training Continuum focusing on stabilization, strength, and explosive power to properly train our athletes. The progression, complexity, and speed of our off-ice training programs are dependent on the age and skill level of our participants. DHD is proud to partner with Donskov Strength and Conditioning, Inc. enabling our team to deliver exceptional off-ice programs. Students are encouraged to wear light breathable clothing, bring running shoes, and come prepared to train hard!
